Welcome to the website of the Halifax and District Organists’ Association which celebrated the centenary of its establishment in 2019 and so is 105 in 2024!
We welcome everyone with an interest in the ‘King of Instruments’ and the glorious music written for it over half a millennium as a member. The organ has a wonderful solo repertoire and an amazing flexibility in other important roles. No other instrument brings together art, craft, technology, relationship to the environment, social significance and community endeavour in the same way as the organ – and it has been doing it at least since the middle ages. You certainly don’t need to play the organ in order to join though!
The Halifax and District Organists’ Association normally holds meetings most months in the Halifax area, sometimes jointly with neighbouring associations. Meeting formats include talks, lecture-recitals, master-classes, social evenings, visits and solo recitals. We always welcome new members, and you can come along to any of our open events even without being a member!
